Visiting my dads home town, Kai, in east Indonesia, I stumbled across the small island of Warbal accessible only via speedboat. From there we travelled by speed boat to various pearl farms and uninhabited beaches which also included secret beaches which popped up between islands during low tide. A beautiful sight. The locals also offered us a chance to watch them harpoon fish near the rocks (It’s always good to have family who know the locals). They came back with 2 giant lobsters, 2 sting rays, plenty of large fish varying in colour, just amazing. After the catch they then made a beach fire (and also caught 2 big coconut crabs) and cleaned the catch before we cooked and serve. One of the best experiences of my life. As the sun started to fall, the beach in the middle of the ocean started to fade and sink underwater. If you’re looking for adventure, pearls, lobsters and hidden beaches, The Kai island is an amazing start.
