The Halifax donair is a descendent of the Turkish doner or Greek gyro, consisting of spit-cooked spicy beef, tomatoes, onions and a sweet milk-based sauce (donair sauce) in a Lebanese pita. It is messy and monstrous, commonly eaten after a night of excessive drinking. It is sold at pizza shops, where ‘donair pizza’ is also available.
