Malawi, one of the poorest countries in the world, runs on maize. There is not a meal that does not feature corn, and you can see the locals eating it raw, mashed into a thick porridge, mashed into a watery porridge, feeding purees to babies. It is also a traditional go-to lunch when you're on the road. Grilled, with nothing else, for a few cents.
