Coffee is arguably the most popular drink in the world. There aren’t numerous things that can bring someone as much joy as brewing a cup of joe in the morning. However, since there are many kinds of variations of this drink, you can make or order it at different times of the day as well. No one seems to know exactly where iced coffee originated from, but there are countless different versions varying from country to country. In fact, you can never know for sure what you’re going to get when you order this drink abroad. Nevertheless, most of these variations are very delicious, so it’s always a good idea to try a cup of iced coffee when you’re traveling to a foreign country.
One of the most popular variations is traditional Sri Lankan iced coffee, which is extremely popular in this country. Although Sri Lanka is best known for its Ceylon tea, you can find its iced coffee at nearly every party, since brandy is also poured in it. For the traditional Sri Lankan iced coffee, you will need a cup of water, a teaspoon of vanilla, 5 tablespoons of coffee (I used my E8 on this), 10 cloves, 10 cardamoms, 500 grams of condensed milk, 1 liter of cold water, and brandy. To make this delicious drink, you will first need to boil the cup of water, coffee, and spices and simmer for 10 minutes. Filter the coffee to remove the spices and mix it with the condensed milk. Add in the liter of cold water and mix it well. Finally, add the vanilla and a splash of brandy to give the drink its distinct flavor.
Apart from the traditional recipe, there is also a recipe for the healthy Sri Lankan iced coffee, which is way more refreshing. For this drink, you will need a cup of water, 5 tablespoons of ground coffee, 8 cloves, 8 cardamoms, sugar, vanilla, a liter of fresh milk, and brandy. Boil ¼ liter of fresh milk, a cup of water, coffee, cloves, and cardamom and simmer on low heat for 10 minutes. Allow the mixture cool for a couple of minutes and strain it into a large container to remove the spice residue. Once you do that, you can add the remaining milk, as well as sugar and vanilla to your taste.
