What: Pastrami, corned beef, brisket, matzoh, potato pancakes—you know what we’re talking about, and we have southeast Florida’s large Jewish population to thank for it.
Where: Palm Beach County has a handful of decent Jewish delis, but one of the best is the spacious 3 G’s Gourmet Deli (5869 W. Atlantic Ave., map) in Delray Beach. The crowd of white-haired retirees waiting outside during the lunch rush should assure you of its worth.
When: Daily, 8am-8:30pm
Order: The wonderfully carnivorous New Yorker sandwich ($11.95) combines the best of both worlds: slabs of house-made corned beef and pastrami separated by Swiss cheese, stuffed into awesomely thick-crusted, double-baked rye bread, and accompanied by coleslaw and a pickle (the mustard is on the table). The potato pancakes are also excellent here—thick, crispy, and well complemented by a dollop of sour cream (there’s applesauce too, but you won’t even need it).
