Bouye (baobab fruit juice)

Submitted by lsr
Village street
Popenguine, Senegal

Thick & sweet, with a texture like bananas, bouye ("bwee") was our favorite of Senegal's local fruit juices. It's made from the fruit of the baobab, those stunning knotty trees you'll see more and more of as you head south from Dakar. In Popenguine village, a new local friend brought us to the bouye lady, who sold us this big bottle for about US$2.
