What: Dalmoth is a traditional namkeen, or savory dry snack, in Agra, made from fried lentils, nuts, spices, and oil. Crispy, spicy, and a little greasy, it’s the kind of snack you’d enjoy best with a cold hoppy beer—if you weren’t in India! (In this case, a cold lager will have to do.)
Where: Dalmoth is sold in prepackaged boxes and bags in many of Agra’s sweets shops, such as Panchhi Petha copycat Panchi Petha House (Fatehabad Rd., approx. map).
When: Daily, 9am-10pm
Order: Our big box of spicy dalmoth, dotted with slivers of cashew, cost 350 rupees and lasted us a very long time. (Note to self: Bring it home and you can enjoy it with a cold hoppy beer!)
Alternatively: As with petha, we recommend you go to one of the real Panchhi Petha stores, such as that near Hari Parvat crossing, across from the Hari Parvat police station (approx. map). Another trusted name to look for is Pracheen Petha. These stores will offer better bang for your rupees, too.
