Food Tours for Schools + Companies

$45-$65 per person, depending on group size

A delicious world food tour for groups of up to 25 to help bring a team together OR to complement immigration/diversity studies in NYC.

For companies: Bring your small work group (8-12 people is ideal, but we can accommodate up to 20) out to Jackson Heights for a one-of-a-kind shared eating experience! You will bond over tasting new-to-you foods together in 4-5 eateries here. Previous clients include: Google, Grey Advertising, Getty Images, Charity: Water, Fund for Global Human Rights, Data Dog, Alchemy, Milbank, Publicis Sapient, Braze, Spence School, and more.

For schools: We can guide groups of up to around 25 people, but twice we’ve successfully accommodated larger school groups via two back-to-back tours (one was 40 kids total; one was 28). We’ve led tours for universities, high schools, middle schools, and even a class of preschoolers and their parents! We will do our best to work with any age and group size group.

This tour and the neighborhood are ideal for students learning about immigrant communities, food culture, sociology, and more. It’s a great immersive and educational experience outside the classroom. Previous clients include: NYU, Colombia University, Adelphi University, Duke University, the University of Mobile, St. John’s University, Renaissance Charter School, Trinity School, Riverdale Country School, and Brooklyn’s Berkeley Carroll School, and summer camp groups from Commonpoint Queens and Girl Be Heard.

See this write-up from Adelphi University about the food tour we led for freshman students.

**These tours are customizable depending on the group’s size and needs, whether you have a budget to work within or a time limit of an hour. We have done it all! Please use this Google form or email laura@eatyourworld.com to get the ball rolling.

Where: Jackson Heights is easy to get to from midtown Manhattan via the E, F, 7, R, or M train (stop is 74th St./Roosevelt Ave.). It’s about a 15-minute ride from midtown, and our meeting spot is just off 37th Ave., a 5-minute walk from the subway. Parking is a little tricky but doable. Detailed directions will be provided if needed. School buses have had no issues getting in and out of this neighborhood.

When: School tours tend to run on weekdays by request (generally between the hours of 11am-2pm), and occasionally as a weeknight tour after 5:30pm. Company tours can run on weekdays, weeknights, or weekends.

Why this Eat Your World tour? Laura has long loved showing people around her incredibly diverse NYC neighborhood of Jackson Heights, Queens, where she has lived for 15 years, is raising her children, and has led food tours for more than a decade. For school groups, you cannot ask for a better place to illustrate a multicultural neighborhood and, via this experience, become immersed in it.

As with other EYW tours, we donate a portion of our tour proceeds back to the neighborhood (via a local food pantry, local immigrant-rights nonprofit Make the Road NY or restaurant-food relief nonprofit Queens Together, or another worthy cause), and we make efforts to “green” this tour via things like compostable utensils and plates, and reusable containers where possible. (And we do actually collect and compost the biodegradable things we use!)

What People Are Saying About This Tour

Laura provided an ideal food and cultural tour for our group from the University of Mobile. We did the tour as our first activity in a journey through New York as part of a travel course entitled “Explore the World in NYC.” Laura did a great job of being an ambassador of her neighborhood, and this was a fantastic way of diving into the fabric of NYC on a human scale. I would definitely recommend these tours for educational purposes. Laura is so easy to work with, and the students were able to experience so much!

Our company had an incredible time on our food walking tour led by Laura! We learned all about the history of Jackson Heights and tried incredible North Indian, Bangladeshi/Bengali, Tibetan, Nepali, and Colombian food. Laura’s deep care for the food, vendors, and communities of Jackson Heights was incredibly evident throughout the tour, and she was a gracious and flexible organizer throughout the planning process. Highly recommend a tour with Eat Your World!

Laura did an extraordinary job of leading groups of high school students on a walking tour of food carts in Jackson Heights. It is a testament to her food choices and buoyant enthusiasm that my students raved about the experience even though it was cold and rainy. This is a great way for students learning about immigration and New York history to have a fun and immersive experience.

A crisp fall evening was the perfect setting for our Eat Your World food tour. We did this as a company event and it was not only great for team-building, but the food was incredible. In addition to getting to eat, we learned from Laura about the neighborhood and the cultural influence that has led to so many of these amazing restaurants. Highly recommend as a group activity but be warned…you will leave incredibly full!
